How Chronic Illness is Misunderstood

People with chronic illness are misunderstood.

People in pain are sometimes treated as if their pain is actually made up . . .

Or greatly exaggerated.

The pain is real.

And it’s there all the time.

Chronic pain is often difficult or impossible to diagnose using standard medical tests.

Because pain cannot be diagnosed.

More than 75% of our health care budget goes to treating chronic illness.

According to the U.S. National Health Council 40% of people are effected by chronic illness.

We are pleased to introduce our next speaker Sita.

She has diagnosed as a person with Epilepsy for more than 12 years.

The seizures got so bad that they left her feeling trapped and helpless.

She wouldn’t even leave her apartment.

Or go for a walk.

She found doing even the simplest things difficult.

Sita is a Registered Social Worker.

And an advocate for people with disabilities.
