Religion and Sexual Orientation

In 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage.

Although we have come far. . .

We still have a long way to go.

Lesbians, gays, Bisexuals, and transgender people still face a lot of discrimination.

Whether it’s through a governmental system . . .

Or through personal discrimination.

In fact, 30% of suicides are related to sexual orientation issues.

Unfortunately religion is one institution that has been slow to adopt any changes. . .

Most major religious text denounces the LGBT community. . .

And therefore make it hard for religion to accept things are changing.

We are excited to introduce our next speaker Gary.

He is a United Church minister.

And has worked in Vancouver for over 3 decades.

Including the Downtown Eastside.

He is also the first openly gay person in the world to lead a major Christian denomination.
